Animal Portraits with Todd Sherman

Students are introduced to the colorful portraits of Fairbanks artist Todd Sherman. Todd enjoys painting animals, friends and family, often adding humor to his art by having animals acting and looking like people. Students paint their own “self-portrait" as an Alaskan animal in the style of Todd Sherman.

Objectives and assessment criteria

Students will:

1. learn about Fairbanks artist Todd Sherman and his colorful paintings.
2. learn the vocabulary words sketch, artist, painter, portrait and self-portrait.
3. practice sketching and painting techniques.
4. create a self-portrait as an Alaskan animal.
